FACC equips A320 aircraft of Austrian Airlines with Passenger Luggage Space Upgrade

16.05.2019

FACC's cabin upgrade creates more stowage space in Austrian Airlines A320 aircraft.

More stowage space and increased efficiency in flight operations - the “Passenger Luggage Space Upgrade” is one of the latest FACC innovations in Aftermarket Services. At the beginning of 2019, our retrofit program reached its first major milestone with the STC approval from EASA. Shortly afterwards, FACC was able to win Austria’s leading airline Austrian Airlines as a launch customer and thus achieved its next success.

Increasing numbers of passengers and luggage, but too little stowage space - a development that has become a central problem for many airlines. Our Passenger Luggage Space Upgrade offers a solution: Under the motto “Get more space”, the intelligent design made by FACC increases the stowage space from three to five trolleys. A unique concept for which we were able to win Austrian Airlines as launch customer. FACC has already equipped three medium-range aircraft (type A320) of the airline with the cabin upgrade for test operation.

The more spacious overhead stowage compartments made their debut on 21 February 2019. The AUA Airbus A320 with the registration OE-LBR "Bregenzer Wald” completed its maiden flight from Vienna to Frankfurt with the new cabin fittings on board.  In March, the upgrades of the A320 OE-LBS "Waldviertel" and the OE-LBN "Osttirol" were completed. The retrofits of the three aircraft were carried out in Vienna by AUA itself and at the airports of Kaunas Bund Tallinn by external maintenance companies. FACC was overseeing the initial installation within the framework of a training program.

We are proud to be able to offer Austrian Airlines more efficiency in the operation of their aircraft with our upgrade package. The modified overhead stowage compartments not only provide significantly more stowage space, but also make any retrofitted aircraft lighter, thus contributing to the reduction of kerosene costs and emissions. The FACC innovation thus combines more stowage space for baggage and faster boarding with economic advantages and ecological benefits.

Robert Machtlinger, CEO FACC

Our Passenger Luggage Space Upgrade does not only create more stowage space, but also improves the ambience in the cabin. Thanks to our broad spectrum of individualization and banding possibilities, we can perfectly meet the requirements of the customers. Robust hinges, which can be easily mounted and dismounted, provide for more efficient maintenance. Our cabin upgrade is available for the aircraft types A318, A319, A320 and A321. We offer our customers a further major advantage when it comes to installation: Depending on the type of aircraft, the installation of the cabin upgrade takes between seven and nine hours, it can thus literally be done "overnight". The maintenance work is done by the airlines themselves or by external maintenance companies. We provide free on-site training worldwide to assist with the initial installation.
