Electric company cars for their daily commute: Starting next year, FACC will offer all employees the opportunity to use an electric FACC car for trips to and from work. All that is required is to form carpools of 4 or more: employees will then be provided with an electric car, which can be charged free of charge at the company using environmentally friendly electricity from hydropower. A VW ID.4 will be provided for 4 passengers, and an electric bus will be purchased for 7 or more.
"The cost of living has risen sharply in recent months. We are therefore keen to support our employees with our new electric car fleet, which will help cut travel costs while also reducing the impact on the environment," emphasizes CEO Robert Machtlinger. "With every kilometer driven, the volume of traffic in the region, and thus CO2 emissions, will be significantly reduced."
Also available for use on weekends
The new smart mobility project was introduced to the workforce at this year's Christmas party as an early holiday gift, and has been very well received within the company. The vehicles can also be used by the members of the respective carpools on weekends for private excursions or other trips - FACC will supply the necessary electricity. The energy requirements of the new electric fleet will be covered by the company's own photovoltaic system. The monthly cost contribution per person is just EUR 20 for a bus and EUR 30 for an ID.4 - a very small amount compared to the fuel costs saved.
FACC app for finding carpools
The company is currently working on its own smart mobility app, offering around 3,000 employees the opportunity to register to find colleagues near them who are also interested in carpooling. This will make car sharing much easier in future.
FACC sustainability Initiatives
This smart mobility project is part of a large-scale sustainability initiative at FACC:
- A company bike campaign was launched this May, offering employees bikes and electric bikes at highly discounted rates. Employees select a bike at a dealer, with everything else taken care of by FACC, which leases the bicycle and then makes it available.
- All production processes at FACC are to be carbon-neutral by 2040. In order to achieve this, FACC is currently working on a number of small and large adjustments. Space heating is supplied 100% by geothermal energy and heat recovery, and in addition to the company's own photovoltaic system, the company sources electricity exclusively from hydropower. Energy-saving LEDs are used for lighting.
- With ultra-light materials made from renewable resources, FACC is contributing to drastically cutting CO2 emissions of aircraft. As part of a long-standing research project, the company has developed a novel lightweight material, derived from sugar cane, with properties that make it well-suited for use in aviation. The surface of this new material is not only extremely robust, but also resistant to heat and chemicals, and could soon be used in the interiors of modern aircraft.
