FACC hands over first e-cars to employees

For journeys to and from work, FACC provides e-cars as part of the Smart Mobility Initiative. This week, the first 70 employees received a total of 17 new VW ID4s.

FACC offers all employees the opportunity to use a FACC e-car for trips to and from work. Employees only have to form car pools of 4 or more people and then receive an e-car, which is charged with environmentally friendly electricity from hydropower - and can also be used in their free time on weekends. Employees pay a contribution of around €1 per day to use the e-cars. The interest in FACC's Smart Mobility campaign is enormous: Within a short period of time, more than 30 car pools have already been formed. This week, the first 17 vehicles were handed over to a total of 70 employees. In the coming months, more vehicles will be handed out to the staff.

"We are very pleased about the great interest in our Smart Mobility campaign - we are not only supporting the workforce, but also sustainably relieving traffic in the region," CEO Robert Machtlinger is convinced. "Already with the cars now issued, there are around 50 fewer cars on the road each day."

Own app for finding carpools

In order to facilitate the organization of carpools, FACC AG uses an app in which employees can register and then search for carpool members. As soon as 4 people join a carpool, a company car can be requested. Private carpools for the way to work are also made possible through the use of this platform, thus providing a further impulse to relieve traffic congestion.

FACC sustainability initiatives

This smart mobility project is part of a large-scale sustainability initiative at FACC:

  • A company bike campaign was launched last year, offering employees bikes and electric bikes at highly discounted rates. Employees select a bike at a dealer, with everything else taken care of by FACC, which leases the bicycle and then makes it available.

  • All production processes at FACC are to be carbon-neutral by 2040. In order to achieve this, FACC is currently working on a number of small and large adjustments. Heating is supplied 100% by geothermal energy and heat recovery, and in addition to the company's own photovoltaic system, the company sources electricity exclusively from hydropower. Energy-saving LEDs are used for lighting.

  • With ultra-light materials made from renewable resources, FACC is contributing to drastically cutting CO2 emissions of aircraft. As part of a long-standing research project, the company has developed a novel lightweight material, derived from sugar cane, with properties that make it well-suited for use in aviation. The surface of this new material is not only extremely robust, but also resistant to heat and chemicals, and could soon be used in the interiors of modern aircraft.
